Heroes of Hollywood to quit

In the musical film Dreamgirls, which appeared on the big screen in recent years, James Thunder Early (Eddie Murphy), the soul star, smoking one cigarette after another. He was so irritated by carelessness waiter, who brought the chicken sandwich with mayonnaise on the error, that thunder mashed his cigarette into a plate.

Under pressure from anti-tobacco lobby, six major Hollywood movie studios had to reconsider its attitude to the cigarette in the film. Opponents of smoking have insisted on their idea to give a special rate for a film with smoking, which affects restrictions for young people. Studio facing the real threat of losing a significant profit.

Hollywood was faced with another problem, which are additional restrictions. Films, where there are guns, drugs and other antisocial behavior, may be subjected to censorship. Director of the movie Dreamgirls, Bill Condon said it was a terrible prospect, because films must portray our reality, but the censors urge them to remove the typical details of our lives.

Disputes about the factors that affect young people who start smoking are still in power. The famous research by Dr. James Sargent of Dartmouth Medical School proves link between watching a movie with smoking heroes and the decision to smoke in real life. But Dr. Deborah Glik, director of research at the University of California, believes that only those adolescents who are already predisposed to smoking into account other factors, start smoking after watching the film. Hollywood rushes to take the correct position at any price.
